Policy and Regulatory Division

The Policy and Regulatory Division of the AASE Institute is dedicated not only to shaping a supportive and forward-looking environment for science-driven entrepreneurship, but also to systematically understanding how policy and regulatory systems determine the success or failure of scientific commercialization. Recognizing that research translation is deeply influenced by policy frameworks, regulatory structures, and strategic ecosystems, the Division operates at the intersection of science, government, and industry to identify the institutional factors that enable scalable innovation.

A core responsibility of the Division is to conduct in-depth research on technology commercialization, innovation policy, regulatory systems, and entrepreneurial ecosystems, with a focus on uncovering the structural determinants of success. Through white papers, policy briefs, and strategic reports, the Division provides evidence-based insights that go beyond description to define patterns and mechanisms. These outputs identify key bottlenecks in the research-to-market process and propose frameworks that can be applied across different institutional and national contexts.

In addition to research, the Division actively fosters dialogue and engagement across sectors as a means of generating and validating knowledge. By organizing policy roundtables, strategic forums, and collaborative workshops, it creates platforms where scientists, policymakers, regulators, and industry leaders can exchange perspectives. This process not only informs policy development but also contributes to a deeper understanding of how regulatory and funding systems influence entrepreneurial outcomes.

Another important focus is global benchmarking and comparative analysis. The Division systematically studies international models of innovation policy and regulatory environments, identifying best practices and underlying principles that drive success. These insights are used to develop transferable standards that can strengthen innovation ecosystems and support cross-border collaboration.

Through these integrated efforts, the Policy and Regulatory Division not only aligns science, policy, and practice, but also contributes to defining global standards for how institutional systems enable scientist entrepreneurship. Its work supports the creation of a more predictable and effective environment in which scientific discoveries can be translated into impactful innovations, advancing the mission of AASE at both national and global levels.
