Investment and Financing Division

The Investment and Financing Division of the AASE Institute serves not only as a bridge between scientific innovation and the capital required to bring discoveries to market, but also as a research platform dedicated to understanding how funding dynamics determine the success or failure of scientist-led ventures. Recognizing that access to capital and infrastructure is a critical bottleneck in early-stage innovation, the Division focuses on identifying the structural factors that enable sustainable growth.

A central function of the Division is to connect scientists with diverse funding sources, including venture capital firms, angel investors, corporate partners, and philanthropic organizations, while systematically analyzing how different funding pathways influence entrepreneurial outcomes. It also provides guidance on public funding opportunities such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the National Science Foundation (NSF), and the SBIR/STTR programs, while studying how grant-based and equity-based financing models shape long-term success.

Beyond capital access, the Division emphasizes resource alignment as a key determinant of success. By linking scientific projects with incubators, accelerators, contract research organizations, and manufacturing partners, it not only provides critical infrastructure support but also examines how these resources impact the efficiency and scalability of innovation.

The Division also plays a central role in fostering strategic partnerships. By facilitating collaboration among scientists, investors, and industry leaders, it generates insights into how partnership structures—such as joint development, licensing agreements, and co-investment models—affect outcomes across different stages of venture growth.

Through these integrated efforts, the Investment and Financing Division not only enables access to capital and resources, but also contributes to defining global standards for how funding and financial systems support scientist entrepreneurship, ensuring that innovation is guided by structured principles rather than chance, in alignment with the mission of AASE.
